Crockett Photographic Workshop
Spend a week with world renowned photographer and internationally respected teacher Joe Baraban at his lake house retreat. Joe will be offering to those interested a workshop like no other.
For two couples or individuals, Joe will host a private one-week workshop on Houston County Lake, just outside Crockett, Texas. Surrounded by the Davy Crockett National forest in East Texas, Joe’s house is situated on the water in a quiet cove facing the sunsets.
Participants can fly into Houston’s IAH airport on Sunday where either Joe or his assistant will meet them. A two-hour drive through East Texas puts you at JoeBeez, the name given to his lake house.
Upon arriving, adequate time will be given to relax and freshen up for the evening when there will be a wine and appetizer reception followed by dinner.
The workshop begins Monday morning.
Within twenty miles of JoeBeez, is a variety of subject matter from cattle and horse ranches, to a downtown frontier town built by Floyd Salmon, to the opportunity to document life in small town and rural America.
One of the best places to shoot is on the lake itself. Just walking out the door of Joe’s house to the waters edge, and following the shore on either side offers enough subject matter to spend the entire week shooting and never get bored. The marina offers early morning photo-ops of angler’s getting ready to hunt the mighty ‘Hawg’…a name given to Large-Mouth Bass common on this well known trophy lake.
Each morning and evening, Joe will work side by side with you while you shoot at one of several nearby locations hand picked by ahead of time for it’s optimum light. Upon returning back to the house after the morning shoot, breakfast will be served followed by some personal time that might include a nap…remember you will be shooting at ‘dawn’s early light’!
Around noon, people will gather, and a light lunch will be served on the deck. The early afternoons will be dedicated to lectures and critiques of your evening and morning shoots while you’re sitting comfortably in his living room.
In the late afternoons, Joe will take you to another location in time to shoot the evening (golden) light. Dinners will either be before the shoot or immediately after depending on time of year. A full bar with vintage wines will always be available.
The workshop wraps up on Saturday after the final critique, leaving the afternoon for water-skiing, swimming, or just laying on a float soaking up the sun with the refreshment of your choice securely in hand. Saturday evening, the final dinner will be at a favorite local Steakhouse in a restored hotel in downtown Crockett. Joe will talk about your week’s work, answer questions, and discuss your new photographic goals.
Sunday morning, sleeping in is the order of the day. For those of you that are avid fishermen, and would love to set a hook into a fifteen-pound trophy Bass, a guided morning trip can be made available for an additional fee.
A farewell brunch will be served late morning, and afterwards good-bye’s will be exchanged. Arrangements will be made for those of you that need it to get back to Houston’s airport where you’ll fly back to your home (with your photographic skills richly enhanced)…and reality.
The workshop will include all lodging, meals, and transportation to and from the airport (if required). For pricing and questions, contact me.
Hope to see you at JoeBeez in Crockett!
